  • New construction over 50,000 ft² (varies by AHJ; some Texas AHJs use 25,000 ft²)
  • Buildings four or more stories
  • Below-grade space over 25% of floor area
  • Substantial renovation that triggers AHJ re-review
  • Buildings already with BDA that need annual testing

What grid-square testing looks like

NFPA 1225 acceptance and annual testing requires signal-strength measurements taken at the center of every 40×40 ft (1,600 ft²) grid square throughout the building — plus 100% coverage in critical areas (stairwells, fire pump rooms, fire command centers).

Pass criteria are stricter than most owners expect: −95 dBm or stronger in 95% of general-occupancy grid squares, 100% in critical areas, and FCC-licensed donor signal validation. We've walked these surveys across 100+ Texas buildings. The data goes into a written report your AHJ accepts.
